and then it was all over.....

So we sit here in Room 1 with bare walls and the desks piled away for the carpet cleaner later in the week. The year 5s have gone off to have a great holiday and will be back in 6 weeks. The year 6s however are now off making their own roads in the next chapter of their lives.

Mr Murray and myself wish all the families and whanau of our students a very merry Christmas. Have a great time with your children and enjoy those magic times together.

Thank you - it's been a great year......

We pay tribute to you in this short collection of memories. Stay safe

DONUTS !!

It seems that the Room 1 students might have felt a bit left out when we made donuts for Room 6 last week so today we made our own.

Thanks to the donut makers - Hadley, Aisha and Emily and to the extra decorators - Sean, Samantha and Mikaela.

It was such a shame that nobody wanted them after all that work !!

Join the Year 6 Celebration

Year 6 Leaver's Party

Hopefully your child has come home and raved about the fun we all had on Friday night. Unfortunately it's hard to tell who had more fun - the students or the teachers.

To keep everyone satisfied until the viewing of the Leaver's Video at the Leaver's Mass at 6.30 Tuesday at St Patrick's Church, here are a few pics....

Peter and Scott - whose will pop first ?

Mr Day was there to witness the magical moment Mr Murray hit the target with his fishing rod. He kept his delight very close to his chest as you would not expect him to gloat in front of the students....yeah right !!

With a little help from Claudia, Emily attempts to follow in Mr Murray's magical footsteps...good luck Emily....you are walking in the footsteps of a legend.

The first race of the night. On your marks...get set....whoops !!

Xav wanted to spend the night playing on an apple device...Mr Day and Mr Murray had other plans......

Lucas !!! Look out !! Mr Day is coming for you and he's armed. He even put his water pistol in the freezer an hour before to guarantee maximum pain on his victims  !!!

Room 1 News - Behind the Scenes

As we approach the end of term the release of the Room 1 World News is only days away. Unfortunately, due to so much going on at the end of term and students being here, there and everywhere the filming was cut back.

Presenter Chris P Bacon - relaxing before the next shoot

So is it going to rain tomorrow Hope ?

What on earth is going on here ?

However, as you can see the students have been busy and they have realised just how much work and effort they need to put into a single programme.

Have a good weeekend folks........

The Hobbit

To celebrate the release of the official Sir Peter Jackson blockbuster "The Hobbit 3: Battle of the Five Armies", the Room 1 students have recreated their own version of it, albeit with a little help from their donut-filled Room 6 buddies.

They have done an amazing job and the acting skills have been impressive with some clearly getting into character roles.

The "real" movie is now on in cinemas so, if you can, get yourself along and enjoy !! Mr Day is planning on getting his prime seat in the cinema in the next few days. If anyone sees it before the end of term and can say the point in his own movie that Sir Peter Jackson appears there will be a special prize...........

Random Act of Kindness

For maths today the year 5s, dressed in their Masterchef aprons, created a culinary delight for their Room 6 buddies. In an act of random kindness, they made donuts for their little buddies...because they can !! Yes they made mess but had fun making it !! Teachers consumed the leftovers in their meeting after school and they were very yummy !!

On Yer Bike !!!!!

Don't forget that all year 6 students need to bring their bikes and cycle helmets with them on Monday as it's Cycle Safety day for Room 1.

Peter - as Thorin

Hadley - as Legolas

Braedan - as Fili

Room 6 as a  of company of dedicated foot soldiers

Emily - as Tuariel

Yes - today our buddy class, Room 6, joined us for the start of our filming for the new Hobbit trailer which will be on screens in the very near future. The movie trailer, which forms part of our Room 1 World News programme, is set to smash all box office records when it is released before the end of term. Watch out for cameo roles from Mr Murray and Mr Day...

Happy Birthday Clara

To celebrate Clara's 10th birthday, the Room 1 students were treated to a yummy chocolate cake which she brought in to share with everyone. The students were delighted with this, although we should point out that Mr Murray and Mr Day went without as there wasn't enough left. It is "Random Act of Kindness Week" after all.

Happy Birthday Clara from everyone in Room 1.

Belt Up

"Always wear you seatbelt" was a clear message today given to the students from who else but the Police !

Lucas with Bobby the dog - he's real you know

A number of policemen and women, some very familiar to us, were in school promoting the message. Not only was it lots of fun, but somehow Mr Day was forced onto the stage (that's twice in two weeks folks) to participate in the action as he smashed Constable Chopper in the seat belt challenge.

Be smart. Be clever - Always wear your seatbelt !!

Water Safety 2014

Kids having fun at the water safety course - learning new skills for the future.

It's Good To Share

As always in Room 1 we are looking for new and exciting ways to share your child's work with you. Above you will find a new application called Voicethread which enables us to share work in many formats - in written text, in an audio file or in a video format.

Click on the first thread from us to hear all of our Holdsworth highlights.

More photos and stories to come from the Kildare trip in to our wonderful native bush.

St Pat's Search and Rescue Team

When people are in danger and they need the help of professionals to help save the day, who do they call ?
The police ? The fire service ? Perhaps the army ? Nah - the St Pat's Search and Rescue Team.

Scooter in the safe and loving arms of his rescuers

Yesterday at Holdsworth, as they descended the dizzy heights of the Rocky Lookout, tired and weary from a day of physical exertion, the team automatically went into rescue mode as they noticed a small dog in need of assistance. Scooter - a small and much loved pet - had become lost in the bush and had wandered away from his owner.

Without even thinking of the risks and the dangers that they might be putting themselves in, the SPSART set about fixing the problem. They carried little Scooter all the way down the mountain and reunited their lost soul with his very worried owners.

Introducing the SPSAR team

It was wonderful to see them in action and even more wonderful to see the relief on the faces of the owners who were understandably distressed.

So next time you need help...you know who to call !!

Holdsworth and Back Again - Part 1

The decision to go ahead with the Kildare trip to Holdsworth, despite the weather, paid off. The sun appeared and the cloud lifted - perfect. However, many of the original activities planned for the day were abandoned due to high winds. But we didn't let that stop us.

We all had a fantastic time tramping to the Atiwhakatu swing bridge and Rocky Lookout. Many of the students got to do things they have never had the chance to do before and many impressed their peers and themselves with their courage, determination and intrepid adventures.

Clara and Lucas delighted to be "Out there doing it" !!

Sian and Grace wrapping up in the strong wind at the top of Rocky Lookout
Xav really didn't enjoy himself - as you can see !!
Cheese !!

At the end of the tramp there was nothing but sore feet and big smiles all round from the lads

Everyone did extremely well, but a number of individuals stood out from the crowd for various reasons. Scroll down for more details.

Having a ball !!

Raymond and Emily overcame their fears to make it across the swing bridge and both admitted that they had a great time !

Undoubtedly Mr Day's Star of the Day - Charlie who said he could carry Mr Day's backpack from Donnelly Flats to the Rocky Lookout. "Yeah right !!" said Mr Day with his award-winning moustache. It was very heavy but that didn't stop the sweat-soaked Charlie from proving Mr Day wrong. An hour later Charlie earned himself 2000 house points and a lot of respect from everyone. We salute you Mr K. On the way back Mr Day carried Charlie's backpack down as a mark of respect.
.

Proving he can be adventurous and be cool at the same time - Sam T !!

Peter just taking it all in from the top

A huge thank you to all of the parents who helped and made the trip possible. We hope you enjoyed your time too. More photos to follow.
